A downtown Raleigh townhome given a contemporary spin, built around a black and brass kitchen with a marble waterfall island.
When a room is glazed on two sides and vaulted above, the view is the strongest material in it. The scheme here steps back to let that happen, then adds weight where the eye needs somewhere to rest.
A generous cream sofa and a pale silk-toned rug hold the light. Against them, a black fluted credenza and a low blackened coffee table give the room its anchor, and warm ochre chenille swivel chairs pick up the autumn tones that arrive through the glass for half the year.
Graphic black and white cushions and a pair of matched lamps keep the symmetry deliberate without making it stiff. The result is a space that feels composed in every season rather than styled for one photograph.
